Product development, design and strategy for YourPaintings, a BBC initiative to digitise the nations publicly held art collections. In combination with the Public Catalogue Foundation, YourPaintings offered a set of tools to enable access to art. This included smart search functionality that not only covered the expected classification systems (date, movement, period, etc) but also helped customers approach and entry into what is generally considered (through our research) an out of reach world. location based information (Art near me), collection and sharing tools help provide personalised art content.
I formed part of the core team of three that took the idea from inception through each commissioning hurdle and then into production. The process itself was ‘somewhat lean’ and focused initially on generating a lot of UI ideas and then forging that into a solid piece of consumer facing software. The product evolved from initial sketch wireframes to help map out ideas into increasingly sophisticated wireframes and finally into high fidelity UI design. Prototyping and user-testing formed a key part of this process.
